June 12-14, 2026 - SOLD OUT

Step aboard the ultimate bald eagle photography adventure. Over three full days, you’ll have intensive hands-on experience photographing and filming eagles in flight, learning techniques for capturing sharp, dynamic images and editing your work. This isn’t a sightseeing trip, it’s a small-group workshop designed to help you confidently shoot birds in flight and develop your skills, whether you’re a beginner or already experienced.

You’ll get:

  • 15 hours on the boat photographing bald eagles

  • 6 hours of classroom instruction for photo and video

  • 2 live pre-workshop group Zoom sessions: one on birds-in-flight photography, one on bird video.

  • Post workshop 1-hour private virtual coaching session with Travis (available for early bird sign-ups only, ends October 20th)

  • Access to Nikon gear to try and explore during the workshop

All taught in a comfortable, flexible boat environment with a bathroom on board, no uncomfortable survival suits or seat constraints. Move freely, find your angles, and step into action when the eagles appear.

What You Need To Know!

This workshop is for photographers and those learning videography who want to get better at capturing birds in flight, not just “go on a tour.” Beginners and intermediate photographers are welcome, all you need is a camera and a desire to learn.

  • Small group: Only 5 guests, giving you more space on the boat and personalized coaching.

  • Flexible boat setup: Stand, move, and shoot from anywhere on the shooting deck, no cramped seats or bulky hot suits. Plus, there’s a protected cabin to escape the wind and rain, and a bathroom on board for total comfort.

🚤 Three Full Days on the Water

Every day includes 5 hours on the boat photographing and filming eagles. Unlike crowded tour boats, this one is designed for photographers: move freely, try multiple shooting positions, and rest in the cabin without missing the action.

🥪 Lunches with a View

Each day includes a mid-day break for lunch, and yes, lunch is provided.
We’ll enjoy it right on the boat, surrounded by ocean views and fresh air.
(And no worries, there’s a bathroom on board to keep everyone comfortable.)

🧠 Small Group = Big Learning

With only 5 guests, you’ll get intensive, personalized coaching from Travis throughout the workshop. Classroom sessions each day cover:

  • Reviewing your photos & videos

  • Lightroom & video editing techniques

  • Birds-in-flight camera settings, composition, and timing

By the end, you’ll leave confident capturing birds in flight, able to approach challenging subjects with skill and creativity.

📷 What Gear Should You Bring?

I recommend a DSLR or mirrorless camera and a zoom telephoto lens with a max focal length of at least 400mm, primes will be limiting on the boat.
Also bring:

  • Rain cover for camera + lens

  • Cleaning kit (blower, cloths, etc.)

  • Extra batteries + cards

  • Laptop

🧥 What to Wear on the Water

Weather in June ranges from hot sun to light rain. Dress in layers:

  • UV-protective long sleeves

  • Quick-dry pants or shorts

  • Lightweight fleece

  • Windbreaker or rain jacket

  • Closed-toe shoes (required on boats)

  • Sunglasses, hat, sunscreen

  • Light scarf or neck gaiter

📅 Each Day at a Glance

Start times vary based on tides. But here’s a rough idea:

  • Morning (9am–2pm): Boat trip – photographing and filming eagles

  • Afternoon (3pm–5pm): Classroom session – photo/video techniques & editing

  • Evening: Dinner together (not included)

🌊 Easygoing & Accessible

This trip is suitable for most fitness levels. No hiking or strenuous activity, just boarding the boat and enjoying time on the water.
We’ll mostly be sitting, standing, and shooting, just be mindful if you’re prone to motion sickness and come prepared.

Desiree’s Experience

"I had the incredible opportunity to attend Trav In the Bush’s bald eagle workshop this year in Campbell River, BC, and it was nothing short of spectacular. The workshop offered endless chances to photograph bald eagles in flight, especially while fishing, an experience that felt both thrilling and deeply immersive.

The scenery was breathtaking, adding a magical backdrop to every shot. Travis was an exceptionally attentive coach, always making sure we had our camera settings dialed in and never missing a moment to point out amazing photo opportunities. His guidance truly elevated the experience.

It was also a pleasure to spend time with Karen, Travis’ wife, who joined us for part of the workshop. Getting to know both Travis and Karen was a highlight, they are warm, welcoming, and fantastic hosts.

I’m already counting down the days until my next adventure with them in Newfoundland in 2026! "

Bruce’s Experience

"If you are reading this, I am guessing you are in the same shoes I was: an avid photographer, doing your homework on workshops, interested in learning more skills while experiencing a beautiful location and with like minded active photographers.  I found all of this in Trav's workshop plus I made some new great friends.

The classroom sessions are truly an important aspect of each day. I found myself being one of the least experienced in attendance and never ever felt out of place. Everyone’s questions were answered and discussed by all so that we learned not only from Travis, but from others in the room.

On the outings, Travis was totally involved in helping each of us with answering our questions, giving suggestions and even assisting with some equipment challenges.

And yes, an incredible time I will share and not forget!"

"When I first connected with Travis, I was looking for insight on how to step up my bird photography. Not only did he provide valuable insights, but he also gave actionable criticisms that led to immediate results the very next day. I can’t recommend Travis enough, especially if you’re worried about sharing your work and opening yourself up to critique. He is incredibly friendly, professional, and creates an easy learning experience."

“Thanks to Travis’s newsletters and videos, I started seeing the beauty in even the most common birds. I’ve been learning as many tricks from him as I can — and it paid off: my photo was recently published in National Geographic Hungary!”

"Travis, What fun to have all of your tips, tricks, and examples in written form. I have been on one of your tours and watch all of your videos. I have learned so much. The ebook is the icing on the cake. It’s a beautiful book and having all of the techniques in writing is really helpful. Thank You."

Where do I stay?

You’ll need to book your own lodging in Campbell River. I recommend finding a place close to Discovery Harbour Marina, that’s where we’ll be launching the boat each day.

There are lots of options nearby, and if you need help choosing, just shoot me an email and I’m happy to send some suggestions.

Where do I fly into?

The easiest option is to fly into Nanaimo (YCD) or Victoria (YYJ) and rent a car to drive up to Campbell River. Both routes are scenic, and having your own vehicle makes it easier to explore and get to the marina each morning.

Flying directly into Campbell River (YBL) or Comox (YQQ) is also possible but can be more limited depending on your location.

How much does it cost?

  • Early Bird: $3,200 CAD (~$2,350 USD) + 5% tax — available until October 20, 2025

  • Regular: $3,500 CAD (~$2,570 USD) +5% tax

Only 5 spots are available.

A $750.00 CAD (~$537.00 USD) non-refundable deposit is required to secure your spot, with the remaining balance due 90 days before the workshop.

What is your cancellation policy?

Because I run small, high-demand workshops, we follow a firm policy:

  • All deposits are non-refundable

  • Full payment is due 90 days before the workshop

  • Cancellations more than 90 days out = refund (minus deposit)

  • Cancellations inside 90 days = no refund
